Glossybox - June 2017

Much to my boyfriend's annoyance, I have been squealing like a little girl since this little beauty arrived today.

Glossybox is a monthly beauty box subscription and quite a few of the products they send are full size, which is a huge bonus. I absolutely love the products they sent me this month. Like other beauty boxes, you fill in your own beauty profile so they can make sure the products they send you are suited to you.

Surprise Birthday Picnic

MY GOD it's been hot in the UK this week. Other countries poke fun at our inability to cope with a bit of heat, but we just aren't kitted out for it like they are! Diving into the nearest supermarket for a bit of icy-cool relief is becoming far too common with me.

On the hottest day of the year so far, Sean and I went on a surprise birthday picnic for our
friend Tom, which had been arranged by his lovely girlfriend Cath. Both Cath and I are keen bakers, so naturally I was very excited for the picnic (especially as I am a massive foodie and the thought of being able to cram myself silly with delicious baked goods makes me more excited than it should). We didn't go too mad though, as it was so hot you just didn't feel like eating so much. It was so lovely to just lay beneath the trees and watch the world go by.

The Benefits of Benefit?

If I could go back 10 years and give myself ~one~ piece of beauty advice, it would be to leave my goddamn eyebrows alone.

It didn't help that I was a teenager at a time when it was super cool to have eyebrows only a few hairs thick, but I definitely went a tad overboard. Zero shape. Zero arch. Zero anything, really. Just enough hairs that I could probably count on my own two hands. It was a sight to see. I've had a look and luckily for my own dignity, there aren't many photos of my hideous "brows" as they were usually hidden by my huge sweeping fringe that covered most of the rest of my face too.

Take This Pink Ribbon Off My Eyes...

The world currently seems to still be fairly anti-feminist. I too, don't really enjoy the in-your-face, "all men can die" attitude that some women seem to adopt. But I think feminism is often being mis-labelled. For me, feminism is all about girls coming together, empowering each other, and realising how strong they really are.

The Pressures of Being Twenty-Something

I struggle daily with the pressure of now being an "adult".

Since leaving school at the age of 18, I've stumbled through adulting a little bit like a fish out of water. The transition from being a teenager to growing into an adult is a difficult one. It got worse a year ago (almost to the day) when I moved out of my childhood home.

Croatia Stole My Heart

I've always been an anxious traveller.

I've never really had an issue with flying, no more than the next person, but it's the being away from home that bothers me. Being out of my usual surroundings; my "comfort zone" if you like, really sets my anxiety off. But, my boyfriend being a keen traveller, I finally accepted that I had to suck it up and push myself. We went to our local Thomson travel agents and very quickly settled on Poreč in Croatia. As our departure date got closer and
closer, I could have been sick with nerves but I was still excited about our first holiday together at the same time.

Cake Therapy

Being pretty much housebound for the past few weeks, but being able to hobble about a bit, I've found myself wanting to bake more and more.

I've always loved baking, from making fairy cakes with my mum as a teeny tiny person (do you remember those Tom and Jerry cake kits you used to have as a kid with the horrific paper stickers for the top?!). But I've now grown up (a little bit) and I'm turning my hand to some slightly more sophisticated recipes.

Not so sure about the wet hair...)
